5 DYNAMIC FACTS

  • 01 Refined petrol and diesel engines offer maximum propulsion.
  • 02 Improved aerodynamics with the best drag coefficient in the segment.
  • 03 Intelligent lightweight construction technique reduces weight by up to 55 kg.
  • 04 Evenly balanced weight distribution (50:50), lower centre of gravity and greater track width.
  • 05 Optimised suspension for maximum precision, agility and smoothness.

DRIVING DYNAMICS TO THE POWER OF THREE.

The challenge: to perfectly tune the interplay between body, weight distribution, aerodynamics, drive system, suspension, damping, rolling resistance and steering. Once again, the engineers of the all-new BMW 3 Series have succeeded in raising the unique driving dynamics to a new level with the seventh generation. The result: excellent roadholding, perfect handling and high agility.

STRONGER. HIGHER REVVING. MORE EFFICIENT.

In the new BMW 3 Series Sedan, the refined, even stronger petrol and diesel engines provide even more forward thrust. And thanks to the greater differentiation between the driving modes and even faster gear shifts, it displays an impressive level of sporting flair and agility. At the same time, the engine inspires with efficiency and fuel economy resulting from BMW EfficientDynamics measures. Optimised heat management, less friction and the optimised 8-speed Steptronic transmission have been able to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

LOWER. BROADER. MORE DYNAMIC.

The new BMW 3 Series is not only lighter than its predecessors, its centre of gravity is also lower and the mean track width has been increased by 30 mm. Less mass and a perfectly balanced weight distribution are the basic requirements for a perfectly tuned and individualistic suspension. The BMW 3 Series Sedan tested on the Nürburgring featured the new dynamically tuned M Sport suspension – as an optimum overall package consisting of variable sports steering, M Sport brakes and electronically controlled M Sport differential. Another influence on the driving dynamics comes from the body, with the more rigid design permitting greater sensitivity in the steering and enhanced ride acoustics.

MORE PRECISE. MORE DIRECT. MORE AGILE.

Yet even the steering itself makes a decisive contribution to the driving dynamics. The aim: sporty, direct steering, stability on straight stretches and intuitive, effortless driving characteristics – even at the limits. In the new BMW 3 Series all of these parameters have been optimised. The axle design and the steering adjustment have been improved, cornering with the sports steering is now even more precise. In order to bring out the sporting character more consistently, an even greater distinction has been made between the “Comfort” and “Sport” driving modes. In terms of driving dynamics, the all-new BMW 3 Series sets benchmarks in precision, agility and smoothness.
